A living part of contemporary Swedish Christmas tradition, Julkalendern is an Advent calendar television show that consists of 24 episodes, airing every year in homes all across Sweden, leading right up to Christmas. North Kingdom created a tablet game companion, adding a new level each night in correspondence with the show. We were asked to create artwork that supports the storytelling within the app, giving kids another strong connection with their beloved Christmas tradition.
To find a style that suites the show and the long legacy of the advent calendar, we explored different illustration methods, finally deciding to abandon the Wacom pen and turn to watercolor and paper.
